Countdown to Day 1…..

You would think just before a 1,000 mile it would be a good idea to rest and take things easy….. right? Errr no…..

For the past four days I was with my 5 year old daughter, Emma, at Center Parcs, a nice little get away with full on activity from 9am through to 8/9pm every day - Emma is like a duracell bunny, she just keeps going. A brilliant time, just exhausting and that doesn’t include the 9 hours of driving in a car with no AC and very uncomfortable seating position - which made my knees extremely painful. My knees have been shot since I was 14 years old, too much sport as a kid and my knees dried up, bone rubbing on bone. I gave up sport but now I’m getting older I can have days of extreme pain where I struggle to walk especially going up or downstairs, running is a no no, sitting in an awkward position can cause days of pain. That’s how I’m feeling now. Fortunately when I ride my motorbike I don’t feel the pain, until I have to get off :)

Tomorrow (Sunday 17th August) I’m leading the O55 Motorcycle Group on a all day ride-out to Butcher’s Hook Cafe, Heathfield (near Hastings) via the country lanes in Kent and Sussex with additional stops and a different route on the way back Just a little warm up ride before on Tuesday, I first have to drive to the airport for about 7am and back, approx 2 hours each way, before I finalise packing and setting off on the charity ride. The first days ride is just over 200 miles and via the coast roads is expected to take approx 5 1/2 to 6 hours (without stops). First stop is at Poole for Poole Bike Night down on the Quay.

At the end of the first day, I’ll be looking forward to a well deserved beer.

A final note for today, to thank all of my supporters we’ve now raised £685 - here’s the donation page if anyone wishes to donate https://www.justgiving.com/page/chris-maund-motorcycle-coast-to-coast-1000-miles
